Severe Fire Danger Issued for South-Central Texas

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Danger Statement for multiple counties in South-Central Texas, citing near-critical fire weather conditions expected today. The affected counties include Atascosa, Bandera, Bastrop, Bexar, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Comal, De Witt, Dimmit, Edwards, Fayette, Frio, Gillespie, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Hays, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Kinney, Lavaca, Lee, Llano, Maverick, Medina, Real, Travis, Uvalde, Val Verde, Williamson, Wilson, and Zavala.

The fire danger conditions are anticipated from noon until 8 PM. Winds are expected to be from the south at speeds of 5 to 12 mph, and relative humidity levels may drop to as low as 11-23 percent. The area's fuel dryness ranges from dry to critically dry.

Residents are advised to be cautious with outdoor activities that may lead to wildfires. Recommended precautions include avoiding welding or grinding activities near grassy or dry brush areas, not parking vehicles in tall, dry grass, and refraining from tossing cigarette butts on the ground. Prompt reporting of any wildfires to local authorities is also encouraged.
