Prioritize Fire Safety This Winter Season

Staff Report / Caldwelllocal.org

As winter approaches, it is important for homeowners to prioritize fire safety, particularly when using fireplaces and wood stoves. Here are some key safety tips provided by the Caldwell Fire Department and Canyon County Paramedics:

1. Keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from fireplaces or wood stoves.

2. Do not burn paper in fireplaces or wood stoves.

3. Always extinguish fires before going to sleep or leaving the home.

4. Have your chimney inspected and cleaned each year by a professional.

5. Store ashes in a metal container with a lid.

6. Place the ash container outside, ensuring it is at least ten feet away from the home.

7. Ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are installed and functioning properly.

Following these guidelines can help create a safer environment during the colder months.
