Caldwell Police Launch Seat Belt Safety Campaign
Staff Report / Caldwelllocal.org
The Caldwell Police Department has announced a partnership with the Idaho Transportation Department's Office of Highway Safety and law enforcement agencies across the state. This initiative aims to promote safety during the Thanksgiving travel period. From now until November 22, officers will conduct a statewide enforcement effort to issue citations to individuals not wearing their seat belts and to educate the public about the importance of buckling up.
According to seat belt survey data from the Office of Highway Safety, 86% of Idahoans wear their seat belts, which significantly contributes to safety on the roads. Buckling up is a crucial safety measure, as it can increase a person's chances of surviving a crash by 50%. In 2023, it was reported that 58% of the occupants who died in crashes involving cars, pickups, SUVs, and vans in Idaho were not wearing seat belts. The Caldwell Police Department encourages all drivers and passengers to buckle up every time they travel, whether it’s a long journey or a short trip across town.
