Caldwell Police Share Halloween Safety Tips

Staff Report / Caldwelllocal.org

The Caldwell Police Department in Caldwell, Idaho, is sharing safety tips for Halloween from their K9s, Zahra and Mando. The department encourages everyone to enjoy the festive time but also to prioritize safety while driving and walking.

For drivers, the following precautions are advised:

- Be particularly aware and take extra time to look for children at intersections, on medians, and curbs, as kids may behave unpredictably due to excitement.

- Slow down in residential neighborhoods, especially during popular trick-or-treating hours from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

- Eliminate distractions in the car, such as talking on the phone or eating, to focus on the road and surroundings.

For pedestrians, especially children, the department recommends:

- Carrying glow sticks or flashlights to enhance visibility.

- Crossing streets at corners using traffic signals and crosswalks.

- Avoiding the use of electronic devices and walking carefully across streets.

- Watching for vehicles that may be turning or backing up and teaching children to avoid darting into the street or crossing between parked cars.

The Caldwell Police Department wishes everyone a safe Halloween.
